Mexico, Vietnam & The Developers

Learning to fly

I met a grizzled old geezer walking along the beach in Tulum, Mexico with a plastic bucket in his hand filled with what looked alarmingly like his pee.

Turned out he is a Vietnam vet who moved here in the 70s. He staked a claim for a large piece of jungle and has lived here ever since in his hand-built cabana.

Now, the developers are moving in. They offered him just over a million bucks for his land. He told them where to go.

Grinning at me he asked "Do I scare you? I scare most people?" He then walked off muttering to himself, filled his car with fuel and started it up. Reaching into his glove compartment he lit up a cigarette, put on his shades and blasted off to the sounds of Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'.

I kid you not, dear reader.

What a guy.
